Here are some considerations:

1. Do your homework. Read up as much information that you can on the various extensions companies and type of hair used. Look at their websites, but don't always believe everything that they tell you. Look for independant comparisons.
2. Ask different hairdressers. If there is anyone who has seen problems with hair extensions then it is a hairdresser. Visit the more expensive salons because you know they will offer the best systems.
3. Assess how long has the company been around for. The tried and tested companies will generally have been around for years. Be wary of the “newest, latest, cheapest”. You may have no recourse if unhappy and the company no longer exists, or is unable to supply extensions anymore.
4. Can you reuse the hair? Take into consideration that some hair extensions can be reused (Great Lengths cannot be reused) A word of caution: Find out how much the salon charges to reinstall the hair. Its never free and often quite expensive.
5. Ask for a few “satisfied clients” for their opinion on the extensions and see if you can see an installation that is over 2 months old.
6. Establish how much will it cost in total. Ask for all of the costs. Installation, removal, shampoo’s, conditioners and cutting. Do not be caught off guard by any hidden costs that were not discussed beforehand. Please be aware that quality hair extensions are expensive, because ethically obtained human hair in pristine condition is expensive to purchase and process. If hair is inexpensive, the you are sacrificing on quality.

7. Find out the differences between the companies? How do they attach the extensions to your own hair? How are they removed? What does the hair feel like? Where does the hair come from? Is the company internationally recognised?

Considerations

Which hair extensions should I choose?

There are many hair extensions available on the South African market. Please be careful when choosing an extensions company as the wrong decision can lead to disastrous results that are not easy to “fix”

How do I choose a salon?

We have many Great Lengths partner salons around the country. The question we are asked often is “Who is the best?”  There is no easy way to answer to this as each hairdressing salon is different. The most important consideration is where do you feel most comfortable? To help you along we recommend asking the following

  • Ask if you can speak to a few “satisfied” clients.
  • Ask if they have some before and after pictures that they have done.
  • Does the Hairdresser make you feel comfortable and knowledgeable. Do they conduct themselves professionally?
  • Are they a Great Lengths partner salon? You can check this by finding their salon on our website or calling us on 011 326 1525.
  • Does the hairdresser have a Great Lengths certificate?
  • How long have they been working with extensions?
  • How much will it cost? Not all salons charge the same amount.
