We recommend to all Great Lengths clients that they visit their salon 2 weeks after their Great Lengths installation. This free maintenance is to help you with any possible styling issues. You may never have had hair this long or thick and might need assistance with styling techniques.
To ensure that your extensions always look good we recommend that you visit your salon for maintenance every 4-6 weeks. At these maintenance checkups your Great Lengths technician may need to remove and replace some of your extensions as they can become untidy. This is due to the fact that on average you naturally lose 100 strands of your own hair every day. When you have extensions this hair, which would normally fall out, is caught in the extension and can cause matting. The maintenance will help minimise this matting.
Alternatively you can wait and remove and replace all of your extensions at once. Your extensions may last anything from between 3-6 months depending on how fast your own hair grows, your natural hair loss and how you care for your extensions.
It is very important that you use professional hair products on your extensions. Great Lengths hair is 100% human hair and will respond to the environment just like your own hair.

Products to use: the nxt range has been especially formulated for use with Great Lengths extensions.
Shampooing and Conditioning: As often as required – from roots to ends. Ensure that the hair is well rinsed – that no product residue is left behind. Avoid products containing alcohol. Products must be professional and acid balanced (pH 5.5).
Treatments: Extensions require a nourishing moisture treatment every 6th shampoo. This prevents knotting and keeps the hair silky. Concentrate the treatment on mid-lengths to ends of the hair.
Styling Aids: Keep all styling aids off the bonds as they are usually high in alcohol. Remember that many products contain silicones to give hair shine. With constant use of heat from hairdryers, flat irons and tongs, the silicones are forming a layer (or seal) over the natural hair and extensions. It is therefore advisable to regularly deep cleanse hair, especially prior to an extensions installation.
Brushing: Brush regularly from roots to ends using a soft cushion brush – this will prevent matting. Release the matted hair by easing the knots from the bond back towards the scalp
Sleeping: hair should be tied back, in a soft ponytail, when sleeping if the extensions are longer than 30cm
Swimming: Whilst swimming is possible when wearing extensions, in some instances, sea water or chlorine may damage the bonds. It is advisable to shampoo and condition hair as soon as possible after swimming and blow-dry the scalp area in order to extend the life of the bond.
Lifestyle: Any form of regular activity (aerobics, swimming, gym, steam, sauna, etc.) may keep the bonds in a constant damp environment and reduce their lifespan. Shampooing, conditioning and blow-drying the scalp area as soon after activity as possible will extend the life of the bond. |
